Checks and money orders should be made out to the Philadelphia Ship Preservation Guild. Mastercard and Visa donations may either be phoned directly to the Guild Office or you may use the PayPal donation link on the left border.

Please include your name and address on all donation correspondence as well as an indication if you would like to join our organization and/or receive email and paper mailings about our on-going preservation work.

Please indicate whether your gift is targeted to a specific project or endeavour. The Guild will always need general operating donations.

In-kind donations should first be cleared with the Guild office prior to actual contribution.

Ask Your Employer to Donate

Does your employer know how much time you donate to Gazela or Jupiter? Many companies will reward your volunteer efforts by making a charitable donation to your chosen organization or by matching your own donation. The guild received $1500 in 2006 from employer charitable donation programs. Ask your employer if they have a charitable giving program that you can participate in.

Make a Tax Wise Donation

Call or Email the Guild office to discuss the possibilities: (215) 238-0280 or office@gazela.org

Appreciated Securities A gift of long-term appreciated securities either publicly traded or from a private company may provide greater tax advantages than gifts of cash. The donor can deduct the current fair market value as a charitable gift and avoid any capital gains tax on the appreciation. The deduction can be used to offset the donor’s adjusted gross income in the year of the gift and any unused excess may be carried over to offset income in succeeding years.

IRA Gifts – New for 2007 New legislation enables persons 70.5 years or older to make donations up to $100,000.00 in 2007 from a traditional or Roth IRA without incurring a tax on the withdrawal. To qualify, the funds must be contributed directly by the IRA trustee to the eligible charity. Amounts transferred are not taxable and no deduction is available for the amount given to the charity. This provision is effective only until December 31, 2007. All gifts must be completed by that date. Click for further details: IRS Article

Endowment

The Ship Guild is grateful to Mary Smith for her recent gift in the memory of her late husband, William Wikoff Smith. This endowment supports the future maintenance of the tall ship Gazela. The Guild would appreciate additional gifts to increase the value of this endowment or to start a new endowment supporting the tugboat Jupiter.

Grocery Card Programs

The Ship Guild is registered with eScrip, an Internet organization that facilitates merchant giving. Local and online stores choose to donate a percentage of your purchase directly to a charity of your choice. Genuardis and Safeway are two of the many merchants supporting this program. The Ship Guild's eScrip account number is 151994785. You may also use our full name to search.

Once you have registered your grocery card number and have chosen to direct your donations to the Guild, all future donations will be automatically and electronically deposited into the Guild account. This doesn't cost you additional money - the donation is coming directly from the merchant - so, thank you very much for thinking of us.
